HALF A CENTURY ON THE ROAD AND COUNTING

of
Million MIler

With a life in trucking that dates back to 1969, it’s no surprise Dick Seyfang keeps hitting big milestones. It’s been 43 years since he started his own trucking business. He’s spent 26 years behind the wheel of his Kenworth truck. He was named to the National Association of Small Trucking Companies' list of America's Best Drivers in 2020.  And, his Cat truck engine will top 3 million miles in mid-2022.

But the most important number to Dick is 44. That’s how many years he’s been married to Linda. A “wonder woman” and the “backbone of the business,” she runs the home and the company while Dick hauls goods from upstate New York to locations all across the eastern United States and occasionally as far west as Las Vegas.

NOTHING MATTERS MORE THAN RELIABLE SERVICE

Dick’s attributes his 50-plus years of success to one simple thing: “Customer service, flat out. That’s my driving force. My parents taught me virtues I’ve carried on — that my customers are feeding my family. The toughest customer is going to get the same level of service as the nicest customer.”

That’s one of the big reasons Dick counts on Caterpillar, because reliability is key in serving his customers and delivering goods on time. He believes the best way to maintain reliability and avoid failures is to choose Cat components and service. For that, Dick turns to authorized Cat dealer Kenworth Northeast Group in Buffalo, where only mechanic Joe Glouse is allowed to work on his truck, no matter how long it takes. “If I had to switch colors of engines, even if someone offered me a brand-new truck, I would retire,” Dick says.

Retirement’s not in the cards anytime soon. Dick just received his third Cat Million Miler jacket and plans to get a fourth before he says so long to the road. He made this business his life half a century ago and still enjoys it as much as ever. “I love the customer aspect, customers putting their trust in me to keep their cargo safe getting from A to B,” he says.

Thanks, Dick, for your commitment to hauling the goods we rely on. And congratulations on your Golden Achievement Award and for becoming a Million Miler once again!
