When you’re working in a potentially explosive environment, safety is key. That’s why WOMA (Australia) Pty Ltd. recently ordered two Cat® C4.4 HazPak units to power its offshore vacuum machines.

Manufactured by Pyroban, a Caterpillar company based in the United Kingdom, HazPak power units are specially designed for demanding oilfield operations—preventing and controlling explosions in hazardous atmospheres. That’s ideal for WOMA, which provides industrial high-pressure water-jetting and vacuum-cleaning technology offshore.

“All of the surface temperatures and exhaust gas must be below 200 degrees Celsius,” said Steve Riley of Energy Power Systems Australia (EPSA), the Cat dealer that supported the sale. “The engines are highly specialized because they must be certified to meet rigorous explosion-proof requirements for offshore use.”

All Cat HazPak units are certified from the factory to minimize installation design, time and cost—which was another critical factor for WOMA.

“The specific challenge around this project was time, because we needed to get the equipment delivered to WOMA inside 12 weeks,” said Rob Double of Pyroban. “Caterpillar’s HazPak offering is another example of the commitment to ensure the delivery of safe solutions for the oil and gas industry.”

The international collaboration between Pyroban, EPSA and WOMA represented the first complete Cat HazPak package in the Asia-Pacific region.
