Cut Downtime with Your Excavator's Reversing Fan

Dust and debris can force unwanted and costly downtime for your hydraulic excavator. And when you’re on the job, you’re going to encounter a lot of it. Fortunately, your Cat® excavator’s reversing fan can help kick out debris from the machine's radiators and coolers.

Video about using reversing fan on excavator

The reversing fan temporarily reverses airflow, removing debris. This helps protect the machine from overheating and limits the need for manual cleaning. Here’s how to operate it.

REVERSING FAN STEP-BY-STEP [00:45]

Note: Master-level operator profile access is required to adjust reversing fan settings.

  1. To operate and adjust the reversing fan, go to your machine settings menu.

  2. Select reversing fan.

  3. Enable or disable auto purge. When disabled, run a manual purge as needed. When enabled, the fan will activate at an interval and duration you've chosen.

  4. You can set the fan interval from 5 minutes to 120 minutes. Duration is 20 seconds and can't be changed.

In high-debris applications, you may want your reversing fan to activate more often. And good news is your air conditioner’s performance is not affected by reversing fan use.
