Boost Business with the Right Demolition Attachment

With demolition, you have a choice. Sub it out or do it yourself. Given that many, if not most, construction projects start with some sort of demolition, investing in the right attachments offers huge advantages.

Estimated read time: 5 minutes

Match the attachment to the job, and you will improve efficiency, save on fuel and labor costs, and open new areas of growth in your company. You can, for example:

  • Improve scheduling and complete jobs with your own people and equipment rather than wait on subcontractors.

  • Bid on and win jobs involving structural steel, concrete columns, highways and bridge decks.

  • Reduce concrete and asphalt rubble to sizes that are easy to load into trucks or reuse and sell as aggregate or fill.

  • Improve machine use by adding hours to equipment that would otherwise be idle.

Let’s look at Cat® attachments and learn what they can do to take your business to the next level.

DEMOLITION AND SORTING GRAPPLES

of
DEMOLITION AND SORTING GRAPPLES

Designed to pick up and move big loads, Cat demolition and sorting grapples come in three shell types:

  • Skeleton shell: suited for primary and secondary demolition and other harsh applications.

  • Perforated shell: largest capacity; best for high-volume processing and sorting applications for light material densities.

  • Closed shell: best for high-volume processing and sorting applications for light material densities.

Rotating grapples spin 360 degrees in either direction. They are ideal for demolition and severe applications, when you don’t want the loads to be too close to your excavator.

CONTRACTORS’ GRAPPLES

If it’s simplicity and low costs you’re after, Cat G100 contractors’ grapples don’t need auxiliary hydraulics to run. Rather they open and close using your excavator’s bucket cylinder linkage. A two-over-three tooth design maximizes material pickup and retention.

Contractor grapples will quickly and efficiently dispatch demolition chores, material handling and sorting rock, scrap, pipe, waste material and debris. Several models are available with jaw openings from 86.4 inches (2.2 meters) to 152 inches (3.9 meters).

MOBILE SCRAP AND DEMOLITION SHEARS

of
MOBILE SCRAP AND DEMOLITION SHEARS

Cat shears make quick work of I beams, structural steel, refrigerators, old cars and mixed scrap. Fast cycle times and easy maintenance reduce debris piles to easily managed material. Caterpillar has several models including boom-mount and stick-mount versions and rotating and fixed axis designs.

But don’t think that these tools require big machines. Cat shears are sized for different models of:

  • Excavators

  • Skid steer loaders

  • Compact track loaders

  • Multiterrain loaders

MULTI-PROCESSORS

If you’re faced with mountains of mixed materials, you may want a multi-processor. Cat multi-processors let you change jaw types in 15 minutes using standard hand tools. With the different jaws you can:

  • Crack concrete using the outer jaw and shear off steel with the inner jaw.

  • Pulverize concrete and separate rebar.

  • Perform secondary pulverization, reducing the rubble to smaller pieces and achieving total rebar separation.

  • Shear structural steel, pipe and cable.

  • Cut up tanks and steel plate.

PRIMARY AND SECONDARY PULVERIZERS

of
PRIMARY AND SECONDARY PULVERIZERS

Cat primary and secondary pulverizers demolish concrete structures faster than traditional methods using:

  • SpeedBooster technology that results in 52% faster cycle times and 13% more force.

  • Integral rebar knives that cut through pipe rebar and embedded metal.

You’ll also spend less time servicing these highly efficient tools thanks to:

  • Bolt-on, field replaceable wear components

  • No requirement for hard-face welding

  • Hydraulics protected inside housing access panel

  • Asset tracking with Cat VisionLink®

HAMMERS

Nothing improves productivity like a machine-mounted hammer. With big hammers you can reduce whole bridges, buildings and highways to easily disposed or resold aggregate. Rock and hard soil in trenches or building sites can be demolished and removed. And small hammers can break up pipe, take out driveways, sidewalks and walls more efficiently and safer than any other method. Learn about choosing the right hammer for your application.

THUMBS

A simple thumb attachment to an excavator bucket takes your machine from digging to material handling. From picking up whole boulders and land clearing debris to carrying and loading logs, this is the one attachment every excavator should have. Read about the different types.

COUPLERS

Cat couplers let you switch attachments easily without having to leave the cab of your machine and hammer out a pin. Caterpillar has these types:

  • Pin grabber coupler for hydraulic excavators: Drop one attachment or bucket and pick up another in seconds. Get more information about the pin grabber.

  • Standard and hydraulic connecting S-type (HCS) couplers for excavators: The HCS series connects your machine’s hydraulics and electronics. It delivers high-flow capacity and low back pressure to reduce fuel burn and improve productivity. Standard S-type couplers are dedicated, pin-grabber style couplers that offer a consistently tight fit to the attachment.

  • FusionTM quick coupler for medium wheel loaders: The Fusion quick coupler pulls the bucket or tool tight to the loading arms. Wedges lock the coupler to the tool and keep it secure. It can be used with buckets, blades, forks and other attachments. Read more about it.
