More Than 80 Patents Protect Cat Reman Innovation
Tricky technical challenges pose no problem for engineers when it comes to remanufacturing core into Cat® Reman like new quality parts. Our teams are always looking to improve or develop new processes. And some of these solutions are so innovative, Cat Reman holds the patent on a few vital steps in the process.

SHEARING FASTENER FOR SEALING A FASTENER HOLE
THE CHALLENGE: Thin walls at the bottom of threaded holes can lead to leaks over time. Normally, mechanics might prevent leaks by using a standard set screw coated in a sealant in the bottom of the threaded hole. But in certain situations, this is not possible. That’s because these screws will not adequately provide thread engagement for the fasteners that occupy these threaded holes. So, the task for Cat Reman? A thinner plug that could be installed with standard tools.
THE SOLUTION: Our engineers developed a special “plug bolt,” manufactured from a standard bolt and compatible with standard tools. The bolt is designed to break at a predetermined torque and at a predetermined location. That means that when it does break, the plug portion will remain in the bottom of the threaded hole to seal it.
AND WHAT ABOUT THE REMAINING 80-PLUS PATENTS?
Well, as we said, we have to keep some things close to the vest. But here are just a few of the techniques we have patented:
