What Started at a Race Ended with a Motocross Wedding

JP Tracy spent the morning of his wedding grooming the dirt at the Tomahawk MX Park in West Virginia with a Cat® dozer.  It’s something he does often to help the owner maintain the jumps and turns at the track (he’s been operating equipment since he was 10). But on this day, he was creating a space to marry Ashleigh, the girl who he met years earlier at this same track.

For the Love of Motocross

JP and Ashleigh’s story begins in 2013 at a motocross race at Tomahawk. JP, a heavy equipment operator by trade, was competing in the race.  Ashleigh was there to cheer on her little brother who was also competing.  Nothing about that weekend went as planned for JP.  A crash early in the competition broke his collarbone and took him out of the race.  After the crash, he returned to his trailer, where something else unplanned happened – he met his future wife.

JP and Ashleigh hit it off right away.  “Our first real date was to King’s Dominion (an amusement park) and we have been together ever since,” they said.  Their shared love for motocross brought them back to the Tomahawk track many, many times over the years.

Four years into their relationship, the couple was at the track to celebrate JP’s 21st birthday. “We had our family and friends there and he decided to make the weekend even more special,” says Ashleigh. It was then that JP asked Ashleigh to be his wife. And she said “yes!”

Tying the Knot in the Dirt

The couple said “I do” on September 19, 2020.

“Of course, the wedding was held at Tomahawk MX,” they said.

The track holds a special place in their hearts, not only because it’s where they first met and got engaged, but according to Ashleigh and JP, “Tomahawk is one of the most local tracks to us, so we ride there often and have a good relationship with the owner.”

Fortunately for them, their outdoor wedding venue allowed them to safely celebrate with family and friends, despite the COVID 19 pandemic.

Ashleigh and JP took some of their wedding photos with the Cat dozer — and of course with their motocross bikes.

The newlyweds have a full house with two dogs, three cats, and a guinea pig. And in their spare time, they like to visit motocross tracks and ride their dirt bikes.

Congrats Ashleigh and JP, and cheers to a life full of adventure and happiness!
