Visit Vegas Like a Local for CONEXPO

Find tips for enjoying CONEXPO and beyond, from Fremont Street to the Las Vegas Strip.

Las Vegas can be overwhelming… especially if it’s your first time here! And if you’re coming for CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2023 to see heavy equipment, engines, and Cat® Reman components, you’ll be here the week that March Madness (American basketball tournament) starts too, so it will be extra busy around town.

As a Las Vegas resident for 15+ years, one of our marketing consultants is sharing her top five tips for visiting Vegas and enjoying your free time. (Bonus tip – pronounce the state as Nev-AD-uh if you want to sound like a local!)

  1. Keep your walks to just one casino-length on The Strip. Appearances are deceiving, and TRUST US, walking from Caesar’s to NYNY will leave your feet hurting and your body exhausted before you’ve started enjoying your free time!

    1. The LV Monorail is inexpensive and can save you a lot of steps. If you go to the back of any casino on the east side of the Strip, you should see signage directing you to the Monorail.
    2. Uber/Lyft are very popular in Vegas and generally have a designated area close to the taxi lines. If signage in your casino doesn’t direct you to “Ride Share Area,” look for the “Taxi” or “Valet” area.
    3. Travel in style when getting around the Convention Center area and catch a ride on the Vegas Loop. Instead of spending 20 minutes walking in the sun between halls, just head to a Loop station and get on board for a speedy trip that only takes a few minutes.

  2. Visit Fremont Street… but go to Fremont East. This part of the popular street east of Las Vegas Boulevard/Fremont Street Experience has experienced a huge renaissance in the past 10 years. While “under the canopy” is very cool, don’t miss the shopping, restaurants, etc., that span from Fremont & 6th (check out The Griffin!) all the way to Fremont & 10th (check out The Atomic/The Atomic Kitchen!)… but note that there’s not much to do past 11th street.

  3. Grab a meal at The Peppermill. This is an old-school Las Vegas restaurant that’s approximately halfway between the Convention Center and Operator Stadium/Festival Grounds. The menu is ENORMOUS, so any picky eaters should be able to find something to suit their tastes. Sometimes there’s a wait (they don’t generally take reservations), but you can easily waste a bit of time in the swanky firepit lounge.

  4. Need to find another place to eat? Check out Eater Vegas or pick up a Las Vegas Weekly magazine (casinos usually put one in your room, or you can ask the front desk). These are the two resources even locals go to find great restaurant recommendations… things change here so quickly, locals need guidance too!

  5. Best view in Vegas? This is just one person’s opinion, but try The Foundation Room at Mandalay Bay on the 63rd floor. From the giant Buddha greeting you to all the nook-and-cranny side rooms, it feels like no place else in Las Vegas. It has a spectacular view of the entire Strip, plus good (but a bit pricey) food and drinks.

With all the fun and excitement you’ve now got planned for your free time, don’t forget why you came to Vegas in the first place: to see all the heavy-duty equipment and their cool components, like Cat engines and Cat Reman components.

Reman engine

Get a sneak peek at Caterpillar's latest and most advanced engines and see why our new and like-new engines are an excellent choice in the construction industry. (We’ll give you a hint. It’s because of their reliability, durability, fuel efficiency, and Cat dealer support.) And, of course, the Cat engines team and Cat Reman representatives will be available to answer your questions and supply information on the various engine models and how they can be customized to meet your needs.

So, in between visits to Caterpillar’s Operator Stadium outside, come join us in South Hall at booth S84329 to see Cat engines in action, and experience the excitement IRL. See you in Vegas!
