Stowers Delivers Cat® GC Standby Generator Set for Tennessee Aquarium

For Worldwide Release: September 2020
Release Number: EEPR1720

DEERFIELD, IL –Caterpillar Inc. today announced that Tennessee Aquarium has chosen Stowers Cat to supply standby power to its aquarium in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

The Cat® D350 GC generator set, from Caterpillar’s latest product range, was installed and commissioned by Stowers Cat in April 2020, supplying backup power for the aquarium. This model is one of the new Cat GC diesel generator sets, ranging from 250 kW to 600 kW and designed to provide excellent customer value by delivering a reliable standby performance from a minimum footprint.

“We have about 1.1 million gallons of water that is used to house our aquatic collection,” says Rodney Fuller, director of facilities and safety for the Tennessee Aquarium. “We have to make sure that the environment that they live in is as close to what they would experience in the wild as possible. Providing a clean, temperature-controlled environment is very important, and having reliable power is a big part of that.”

“With the aquarium being a nonprofit organization, controlling costs is very important,” Fuller added. “The new model offered us a price break that we were looking for, while still providing the functionality that we need.”

“Every day, visitors and the aquarium’s aquatic collection count on the Tennessee Aquarium’s facilities, and reliable power is imperative for delivering the experience that recognizes them as one of the top attractions in the country,” said Jaime Mineart, product manager for Caterpillar Retail Electric Power Solutions. “Stowers and Caterpillar are committed to helping the Tennessee Aquarium exceed the expectations of its visitors from around the world.”

Caterpillar delivers innovative power systems engineered for exceptional durability, reliability and value. The company offers worldwide product support, with parts and service available globally through the Cat authorized service and dealer network. In addition, dealer technicians are trained to service every aspect of Cat equipment.

About the Tennessee Aquarium

Since opening in 1992, the Tennessee Aquarium has attracted more than 25 million people to Chattanooga from all over the world.

The aquarium is consistently recognized as one of the country's top public aquariums. An independent research company ranks it as one of the top attractions in the country. This summer, the aquarium secured a top spot in USA Today’s 10 Best Reader’s Choice awards to determine the nation’s premiere aquariums, finishing fifth.

Located on the banks of the Tennessee River in downtown Chattanooga, the non-profit public aquarium is home to more than 12,000 animals representing almost 800 species. The aquarium's exhibits are housed in two structures, the original River Journey building and the neighboring Ocean Journey expansion, which opened in 2005.
