Cat® Excavators for Demolition

When the Adamo Group tackles a job, the demolition company is never without its “Swiss army knife.” That’s how CEO John Adamo, Jr. describes his Cat® Hydraulic Excavators outfitted with various attachments.

“It’s basically a tool carrier,” Adamo says, “something that can switch from a grapple to a pulverizer to a multi-processor to a second-member shear to a third-member shear to a hydraulic hammer.”

Based in Detroit, Michigan, Adamo takes down buildings with surgical precision, operating in urban settings and taking care to ensure surrounding structures aren’t damaged and people in the vicinity stay safe. The versatility of Cat excavators makes achieving those goals easier.

“We have traveled as far as Louisiana and sent just one machine,” Adamo says. “But with its bag of tools, the machine did the grapple work first, the loading second, then our operator handled breaking with the hammer. He put the bucket on and dug the concrete out, then finished with the tamper. We had one machine doing 12 operations, and because of that, we didn’t need to ship four or five machines to the jobsite.”

That’s a money-saver for Adamo. So too is the reliability of Cat equipment.

“In the past we tried the competitors—the excavators in particular—and after a couple of years, they don’t hold together as well as a Cat machine,” Adamo says. “For us, it’s the overall quality and strength of Cat machines and how well they perform over a longer period of time.”
