The unsung office hero

Coffee is your daily companion and an unsung hero. But did you know how good it is for you too? I took a look into it and here’s a few of the surprising benefits.

Coffee helps you keep fit

A cup of coffee about an hour before exercise boosts adrenaline. And your performance can improve by 11-12%.

Coffee makes you happier

By stimulating the nervous system and the production of mood-boosting neurotransmitters like serotonin, dopamine and noradrenaline, caffeine brightens your mood, helps fight depression and lowers risk of suicide. In fact, 2 cups of coffee a day prevents risk of suicide by 50 %.

That’s quite a list! But, of course, like most things, coffee is only beneficial in moderation. Too much coffee won’t kill you as you can’t physically drink enough to get a lethal dose of caffeine. However, pregnant women should limit coffee to a cup a day to protect the fetus. Also, if you suffer from high cholesterol then filtered coffee is the way to go as it filters out ingredients that boost cholesterol levels. And we should ALL limit ourselves to 400 mg of caffeine (around 4 cups a day) if we can. More than that and we risk disturbing our sleep and losing out on the mental, physical and emotional benefits good sleep brings.

So enjoy your coffee, don’t have too much and reap the rewards. And definitely see it as your daily dose of empowerment helping you achieve whatever you want!
