Caterpillar Marine Welcomes Carnival’s First LNG Powered Cruise Ship in North America At Seatrade 2021

Caterpillar Marine Promotes Sustainable Solutions at Seatrade 2021

Houston, Texas - Caterpillar Marine is pleased to participate in this year’s Seatrade Cruise Global conference held September 27-30, at the Miami Beach Convention Center. Conference attendees will discuss a variety of key industry topics including sustainability, decarbonization, and alternative fuels.  This year, Caterpillar Marine will demonstrate leadership in LNG technology and continued success in the cruise industry by highlighting Carnival Cruise Line’s new Mardi Gras vessel powered by four MaK™ 16 M 46 DF (dual fuel) engines.

Launched in July of this year, and named after Carnival’s first cruise in 1972, the Mardi Gras enters the industry as the first cruise ship in North America to be powered by LNG (liquefied natural gas). The MaK 16 M 46 DF engines were designed to meet stringent emissions and fuel-sulfur regulations, while providing maximum flexibility without requiring significant changes to the engine room or exhaust gas system.

“As an industry leader, our team is proud to attend Seatrade 2021 and support the arrival of Mardi Gras, highlighting Caterpillar‘s commitment to developing technologies for sustainability and helping our customers achieve their sustainability targets. The company is involved in the ongoing development of decarbonization and emission reductions for existing fleets including supporting LNG engines for MaK, a brand of Caterpillar,” said Global Services Manager for Caterpillar Motoren, Frank Kircher.

Caterpillar’s heritage and service commitment for medium-speed diesel engines began over 90 years ago, and the company will continue to offer services to all customers for the lifetime of the engines. The company intends to continue building upon the heritage, and support customers through the unmatched worldwide dealer network as a reliable business partner, offering the most comprehensive and customized services for medium-speed engines wherever customers operate around the world. Easy access to certified services expertise, quality parts, and rebuild and repair capabilities around the globe is critical for customers’ business - often making all the difference in uptime and staying profitable.
