Caterpillar Oil & Gas Announces Expanded Fuel Tolerance For The G3600 A4 Engine Line

December, 2021

Houston, TX –Caterpillar Oil & Gas is pleased to announce an increase to the already great fuel tolerance of the Cat® G3600 with ADEM A4 engine line. Today Caterpillar Oil & Gas released the updated technical data sheet for a flat Fuel Usage Guide (FUG) allowing the engines to run at full rating down to a Cat Methane Number (MN) 32.

“We are once again expanding the fuel tolerance of the 3600 A4 line giving customers a wider range of fuels in which they can operate without having to take a derate on their engine,” said Bill Mermoud, market development consultant at Caterpillar.

The G3600 A4 provides users with an increase of over 5.5% in horsepower rating and allows for operation over the broad range of fuels found in today’s compression applications. “Further horsepower increases are possible when operators take advantage of the engine’s ambient based rating (ABR) capability.  ABR allows more horsepower to be available from the G3600 A4, be it seasonally or daily as local temperatures drop and provide cooler inlet air to the engine.” said Mermoud.

For decades, Caterpillar Oil & Gas has powered the gas compression industry with industry-leading gas-fuelled engines, including the legendary Cat G3500 and G3600 product platforms. Built using the proven Cat diesel designs, Cat gas-fuelled engines have stood up to the most demanding natural gas applications for more than fifty years, delivering legendary reliability and durability.

The updated flat FUG can be located in the Caterpillar Gas Engines Ratings Pro which is now available online at Cat.com/GERP.
