Episode three of the first season, which is available now, features hosts Kurt Freidinger and Zach Barrett’s conversation with True Grit Transportation owners Josh and Chris. They talk about how Cat on-highway truck engines have been critical to True Grit’s success.
Josh and Chris founded True Grit in 2013 with five trucks and a dream. Josh says he’s a third-generation trucker, and his family has always put its trust in Cat truck engines. So the decision to equip True Grit with Cat power was an easy one.
“You just can’t beat the horsepower, the torque and the durability of a Cat motor stock,” Josh tells Kurt. And it’s a business decision that’s worked out well for True Grit. Today, the fleet totals upwards of 40 trucks engaged in pneumatic and oil field work. And more than 10 of their trucks are above 1 million miles. Both Josh and Chris say Cat Reman engines are a critical aspect of that success.
When Josh first heard about Cat Reman engines, he couldn’t believe they were like new and now available with new content. “I said there’s no way they’re really recasting old blocks or casting new ones,” he tells Kurt.
But, Josh notes, Cat on-highway truck engines with new content have given True Grit the confidence to move out of the oil fields into longer-haul applications. “We plan on putting those engines in trucks that we're going to hook to dry vans and run in 48 states,” he tells Kurt. “And it means a lot to us as well, that should our drivers have a problem, they can go to any Cat dealer anywhere and get it worked on.”
