LEARN ABOUT MOTOR GRADER SAFETY FEATURES

Remember to consult your Operation and Maintenance Manual (OMM) to familiarize yourself with the features of your Cat^® motor grader. Be mindful of your personal safety and wear recommended PPE for your worksite, including safety goggles and work boots. Conduct ground-level pre-shift inspections on oil and DEF, and inspect your machine for standard damage and wear. The ground-level service points have been grouped together for convenience. Know and avoid pinch points, especially around articulation areas, on your motor grader. Avoid slips, trips and falls when entering and exiting your motor grader by always maintaining three points of contact on your machine and using steps, handrails and steel tandem walkways. Clean all surfaces — including windows and footholds — to reduce the likelihood of operator error and as preventive maintenance.

Follow all startup and shutdown procedures as outlined in your OMM, making sure your machine and attachment are properly positioned. Always wear your seatbelt when operating your motor grader. Some motor grader cabs have been designed with an operator presence seat switch that keeps the parking brake engaged and hydraulic implements disabled until the operator is seated and the machine is ready for operation. Redundant systems, including brakes at each tandem wheel and a secondary hydraulic steering pump, can automatically engage in the event of machine failure to ensure operator safety.
