The test
Highly contaminated fuel was circulated through an engine fuel system test rig at rated and high idle to stimulate an extremely harsh operating environment. Two filters for each brand — Baldwin, Cat, Donaldson, Fleetguard and Wix — were tested and the results averaged to determine performance.
The results
The Baldwin, Donaldson, Fleetguard and Wix filters formed significant leak paths as a result of erosion and contamination. Injectors with these filters all failed prior to the end of the test.
