EDGE INNOVATE INTRODUCES ONE OF THE LARGEST MOBILE TROMMELS ON THE MARKET

EDGE Innovate develops, manufactures and markets sophisticated technologies — specifically, technologies for separating, shredding, stacking, screening and sorting primary and secondary raw materials for production processes and recycling. With headquarters in Ireland, EDGE is a global leader in supplying operations around the world with superior equipment.

Following extensive market research, EDGE identified a gap in the market for a larger, higher-capacity trommel screen. From that, EDGE created the TRM831, one of the largest mobile trommels on the market, with extensive stockpiling capacities, due to an end-discharge conveyor design and remote 180° radial fines conveyor. Development began in 2020, with the TRM831 being well received in many markets.

POWERED BY CATEPILLAR

EDGE has used Cat® engines in most of its machines since the company’s inception 15 years ago. The Cat C4.4 140 kW EU Stage V engine is used in Europe and North America to power the TRM831, with Finning as its dealer/supplier.

Difficult applications require tough machines and tough engines. EDGE is a global industry leader because its products and equipment are designed to be the most efficient and cost-effective available. Because operators around the globe rely on that efficiency, they do not settle for less than what Cat engines can supply.

IT’S A TRUE COLLABORATION

The relationship between Cat and EDGE is not simply one of transactions. The engines for massive separation and sorting machines do not come “off the shelf.” Cat Finning is involved in the planning of installations and engine choices for equipment. As the TRM831 was in development, EDGE would share updates on installations, and Cat would make recommendations and provide on-site engineering support.

“It’s not often the case where you can lift an existing product and put it into a new installation. A lot of work goes into it. Typically, we’re well involved in new engine specification, so we’ll be looking at option code from scratch. We look to add some additional value, if needed.” - Steffen Barrett, Finning Sales Manager for Industrial Engines in UK and Ireland

As a dealer, Finning offers both products and technical support. Cat can assist EDGE projects with a strong team of application installation engineers who help with the design and specification process. At any given time, there can be multiple projects going on between Finning and EDGE, varying in product implementation. The relationship is also beneficial to EDGE because of the support Cat dealers can offer EDGE equipment owners throughout the globe.

THE FUTURE LOOKS BRIGHT AND SUSTAINABLE

EDGE continues to innovate to keep industry workers moving forward. It is currently exploring remote monitoring system capabilities and how engine performance can be effectively measured.

Because EDGE operates in some of the most regulated markets in the world, it is constantly striving to create solutions that meet multiple emissions standards for operators in different countries. Caterpillar shares this objective in the engines it creates, making Caterpillar a one-stop shop.

“The fact that Caterpillar can offer us solutions that curb emissions is key for us.” - Kevin Kelly, Product Development Manager at EDGE Innovate

EDGE designs and manufactures machinery with a goal of minimizing environmental impact and fuel consumption. Cat engines are fuel-efficient with lower emissions, which supports EDGE’s sustainability goals. EDGE has placed a focus on offering solutions in the future that utilize next-generation power technology to keep operators safer and production cleaner.
