Level 1 Training

Competent Operator Training

Level I Competent Operator Training is the first of three levels in the Caterpillar Operator Training Program.

This program is designed for entry-level operators with less than 3 years operating experience. It provides a foundation for development of skills for safe and proficient operation. Each Level I course is focused on one machine family. Individuals complete this training with the knowledge and documentation (Certificate of Completion) of their skill levels as measured against task competency standards.

How Much Does it Cost?

Program Cost
At a Caterpillar facility: $750 per student, per day. Includes instructor, machines, lunch, and training materials.

At a customer job site: $1200 per day, plus one additional travel day at $1200 and expenses billed at cost. Includes instructor and training materials.

Program Duration
Typical classes are 2 days and include classroom and in-the-iron activities. Complex machines and applications can take additional time.

Cancellation Fee
Up to fifteen calendar days prior to start of the class, cancellation fee is 25% of total program cost. Within fifteen days, cancellation fee is 50% of total program cost.

Level II Professional Operator Training

Professional Operator Training

Level II Professional Operator Training is the second of three levels in the Caterpillar Operator Training Program.

This program is intended to improve the operating and application efficiency (productivity) of operators with 3 or more years operating experience on a machine family. It provides a review of safety and operational fundamentals, an evaluation of individual operating skills, recommendations to improve skills and operation time under supervision of instructors. Individuals complete this training with the knowledge and documentation (Certificate of Completion) of their skill levels as measured against task competency standards.

Applicants are expected to have at least three years operating experience on similar machines prior to registration.

Professional Operator Certification

Professional Operator Certification

Level III Professional Operator Certification is the final of the three levels in the Caterpillar OperatorTraining Program.

This program is intended to evaluate the operating and application efficiency (productivity) of individuals that have existing operating experience on a machine family as measured against our competency standards. Students will be assessed on their proficiencies during the certification process. Scoring includes the ability to conduct a thorough walk-around inspection, pass a safety quiz with a score of 100% and a written knowledge assessment with a minimum score of 80%.

This is NOT intended for inexperienced operators and DOES NOT include training. At least five years operating applicable heavy equipment is required. Those wanting to attempt certification must successfully complete the machine Level II course prior.

Upon successful completion of the course, each graduate will receive:

  • Graduation verification number assigned and entered into the Caterpillar data registry
  • Caterpillar certificate and belt buckle with graduate's name and number (Attendees who do NOT meet the expected requirements will receive a Certificate of Participation)
